June 22nd, 2019
On Saturday, June 22nd 2019, United By Blue, Asheville Greenworks, Salvage Station, Diamond Brand Outdoors & Frugal Backpacker met for a cleanup along the French Broad River. The morning provided a clear sky to haul over 1,500 lbs. from being swept downstream in the storm that followed later that day. We followed Riverside Drive where highway overpasses and heavily trafficked roads met close to the French Broad River.
We utilized all of our reusable bags, which once filled were consolidated and redistributed to lower our impact. Asheville Greenworks helped us remove our haul and provided volunteers with safety vests since we worked closely to the road.
Following the cleanup, Salvage Station created space for a happy hour sponsored by our local Maker's Mark partner where we dove into our sustainability initiatives. Learn about and join us in our commitment against single-use plastics by pledging for 24-hours without single-use plastic here.
