October 6, 2018
On October 6th, 2018, United By Blue , Bronx River Alliance , and NYC Parks joined forces for a cleanup of the Bronx River in Concrete Plant Park! With a crew of 92 volunteers, the team was able to pick up 1,121.5 lbs. of trash and recycling from the riverbanks and park in just 2 hours of work. Volunteers spent the morning caring for their local outdoor space and river and playing cleanup games - including our classic Weird Trash Competition, which brought in an intact video game set and some doll limbs. The crew capped off the morning by touring the sustainably-grown foodway that runs through the park. An inaugural initiative for NYC Parks and spearheaded by the Bronx River Alliance, the foodway connects local culture and sustainably grown food in a public park, increasing food access and knowledge in the area. All in all, this cleanup was a great community event that left our parks and rivers cleaner than we found them!
United By Blue thanks our wonderful partners and volunteers for their support of this cleanup, as well as First Deputy Commissioner Liam Kavanagh for attending this cleanup!
