On June 7th, United by Blue joined forces with REI Princeton and Isles for their first cleanup together. 55 volunteers gathered in Trenton, NJ for a cleanup of the Delaware and Raritan Canal. Originally the canal was intended as a transportation route for freight between Philadelphia and New York City. Today the D&R canal and it's adjacent path provide ample recreation opportunity for fisherman, walkers, runners and bikers. Volunteers worked hard, fishing for trash out of the canal and picking up litter along the park and street. Together, we were able to remove 866.4 lbs. of trash from the canal and surrounding land, including 6 bikes, 2 folding chairs and a few car tires! This was the 4th cleanup, out of 11, on the United by Blue and REI Cleanups Crew Road Trip!
Special mention and thanks goes to REI, Clif Bar, D&R Greenway Land Trust, East Coast Greenway Alliance, Stony Brook-Millstone Watershed Association, and Isles for their support in organizing this cleanup.
