On our second trip to Pier 68 in less than a year, we hoped to find the Delaware River in better condition that we did at our last visit. To our surprise, over 100 volunteers hauled an astonishing 12,860 lbs. from the river and surrounding piers! More than double what was cleaned last year! Weird trash included a stop sign, toilet, coconut, spooky batman doll, plaid Christmas tree, 8 hand guns and a briefcase with a passport and checkbook--don't worry, we reported the latter mentioned items to the Philadelphia Police.
Thanks to all of the wonderful volunteers who made this cleanup possible. Special recognition to our contributing partners: The Central Delaware Advocacy Group, Geppert Recycling, Lew Blum Towing, the Philadelphia Fire, EMS and Police Departments, Stray Cat Relief Fund, Rocco's Sausages and Cheese Steak s, Philadelphia Councilman Mark Squilla, and the multiple student and alumni associations who joined us for the day.
