Dockweiler state beach cleanup

Dockweiler state beach cleanup

Aug 22, 2017

Playa del Rey | California

October 17, 2017

138.5 lbs.

The United by Blue Cleanup Crew packed up their supplies and headed out the coast of Southern California to join up with REI stores and local conservation partners for a series of 4 waterway cleanups just outside of Los Angeles.

United by Blue teamed up with REI Manhattan Beach and Surfrider Foundation: South Bay for a cleanup at Dockweiler State Beach. Stretching across the Pacific shoreline for over 3 miles, Dockweiler State Beach is a popular playground for LA residents and visitors of all ages. On Oct. 17th, 87 volunteers joined us at Dockweiler for 2 hours, combing the beach for trash. They were able to remove 138.5 lbs of debris, mostly consisting of small pieces of single-use plastics and few odd objects like abonded car parts, a silk rose, and a flipper!

Special thanks to REI  Manhattan Beach, Surfrider Foundation: South Bay Chapter, and LA Audubon.
