485.5 lbs

On May 7th, 38 volunteers gathered to join United by Blue and Riverside Park Conservancy for a blustery cleanup of the Hudson River at Riverside Park for the 6th Annual Riverkeeper's Sweep.

Acting as citizen scientists, volunteers recorded all of the trash they picked up from bottle caps to diapers to fishing  line to help understand the amount and types of garbage in our oceans. This data is recorded for the Riverkeepers, in order to prevent pollution in the future. With everyone's hard work, time and energy, we were able to remove 485.5 lbs of trash around the Hudson River including some odd items like an old camp chair, a Styrofoam sculpture and a pair of glasses! A special thanks to all of our partners:  Zipcar, Clif Bar and of course Riverside Park Conservancy
