On March 6th, United By Blue kicked off the 2018 Cleanup season with a bang by hosting a cleanup of FDR Park, along with the Philadelphia Water Department, Friends of FDR Park, Philadelphia Parks and Recreation, and honeygrow! Squeezing the cleanup in right before a hefty Nor’easter, 88 volunteers braved the forecast to clean up the banks of FDR Park’s lakes and ponds. In just two hours, volunteers were able to collect 4,187 pounds of trash and recycling, marking one of our largest hauls for a kickoff cleanup yet! Alongside of plenty of single-use plastics, tires, and styrofoam, volunteers uncovered some weird trash: a vintage Phillies hat, a bucket of rusty golf balls, and a burnt memory box made for some good laughs and conversation.

Special thanks to everyone who helped to make this cleanup a success!: Philadelphia Parks and Recreation, Philadelphia Water Department , Friends of FDR Park , zipcar and honeygrow !
