New york bay cleanup

Dec 13, 2017

Staten Island  | New York

March 24, 2018

2,564 lbs

On March 24th, 2018, United By Blue hosted its kickoff cleanup in New York for the 2018 season, alongside of the National Parks Service and Luke's Lobster. Bringing in 86 volunteers on a Saturday morning, the crew was able to remove 2,564 pounds of trash and recycling from the shoreline of the New York Bay! Volunteers removed truckloads of debris from the beach, and even dug up a huge tire from underneath the sand. Along with the heavy lifting, volunteers found some lighthearted trash that gave everyone a laugh, including some old toy figurines and a video game console. After the cleanup, volunteers were treated to delicious lobster rolls by Luke's Lobster and given a tour of the historic Fort Tompkins, led by a National Parks Service Ranger.

United By Blue thanks our wonderful volunteers, partners, and Zipcar for making this cleanup a success!
