On June 15th, a small, but mighty group of 11 volunteers joined United by Blue and REI Norwalk for a cleanup of the Norwalk River at Oyster Shell Park. Oyster Shell Park offers beautiful views of the Norwalk River, which is best known for recreational fishing and oystering, and a devastating flood in 1955. Given the parks close proximity to residential and commercial developments and busy turnpike, windblown trash can find it's way into the area and, eventually, the river. Volunteers cleaned up litter and debris from the river bank. They found many strange pieces of trash including a holographic playing car, a mysterious shipping container, a plastic egg, and a few coconuts! In just two hours we were able to remove 134.6 lbs of trash. This was the 10th cleanup, out of 11, on the United by Blue and REI Cleanups Crew Road Trip! A special thank you to all of our partners: REI , Clif Bar , 1-800-GOT-JUNK?
