Schuylkill river cleanup

Schuylkill river cleanup

Feb 23, 2018

Philadelphia  | Pennsylvania

April 27, 2018

1,468 pounds

On April 27th, 2018, United By Blue, Bartrams Garden Association, and Philadelphia Water Department joined forces to tackle the trash along the shoreline of the Schuylkill River. Joined by 134 volunteers, the team was able to remove 1,268 lbs of trash and recycling from the river shoreline and Bartrams Garden, despite rainy conditions. Targeting the critical wetlands along the shoreline of the river, volunteers donned waders and rain-boots to access hard-to-reach trash and debris. Digging through the mud brought in some odd trash findings, including a note for how to tip in Australia and a Croc shoe with a doll arm in it. Volunteers made the best of a rainy day by leaving Bartrams Garden cleaner than we found it!

United By Blue thanks its partners and volunteers for a successful cleanup, as well as Zipcar and GoPhillyGo for their sustainable transportation to our cleanups.
