Upper bay cleanup

Upper bay cleanup

Jun 26, 2017

Brooklyn | New York

July 22, 2017

1,124 lbs.

On July 22, United by Blue returned to Red Hook, Brooklyn for our 2nd cleanup of the Upper Bay! With iconic views of the Statue of Liberty and Upper Bay, Louis Valentino, Jr. Pier and Park offers a large green space for Brooklyn locals and visitors alike. Unfortunately, nearby industry brings unwanted debris, and trash often gets washed ashore. For this cleanup, United by Blue was joined by honeygrow and 33 volunteers who worked tirelessly for 2 hours cleaning up the shoreline, park and surrounding street. We picked up everything from small pieces of styrofoam and plastic to a washed up dock, and all of the strange trash in between, including a mop and a set of crutches! In total volunteers picked up 1,124 lbs. of trash and recycling.
Special thanks to 1-800-GOT-JUNK, honeygrow for all of your support and delicious honeybars, and to Steve's Authentic Key Lime Pie for the surprise post-cleanup pies!
