Montana native Max Lowe developed his love for all things outdoors while growing up in the mountains — and it probably helped that his guides included his late dad, Alex Lowe, and stepfather, Conrad Anker, both renowned mountaineers. Max now uses his skills behind a camera to take him all over the world, from surfing in Southeast Asia to penguin watching in Antarctica.
And since we’d love to accompany him on the adventure (but we’re not quite sure we have the guts or upper body strength to follow him to the Denali summit), we sent him our Ridgeline 55L Arc Duffle to serve in our stead. We talked to the adventure photographer and storyteller about his latest trip of a lifetime and his essential items for enjoying everyday adventures.

You're constantly getting off the grid and exploring new places. What have you been up to lately?
I was just down in Brazil for a month, working on a story about jaguars for National Geographic. It was pretty amazing to see such rare animals in close proximity and call it work.
We're so jealous – where to next?
More of a hometown adventure. I am heading up for three days at a friends cabin and my Ridgeline Arc Duffle is packed with the essentials: swimsuit, whiskey flask, and layers on layers.
We're so happy to hear you've been using your Ridgeline bag! What have you been packing? Is there something that you bring on every single trip?
Since it’s a little more lightweight, I use it more for long weekend trips, or I’ll pack it as an extra bag for mini adventures while I’m traveling. I always toss in clothes, jackets, mini speakers, and a flask.
What are your favorite things to do outside?
Anything, as long as it’s with people who I love spending time with.
If you could live anywhere in the world for a month, where would it be?
An Antarctic research station amidst a penguin colony.
If you could pick any person (alive, dead, fictional, whatever) to travel with, who would it be?
