Title: Director of Finance 

 

Overview: United by Blue is seeking a high-energy leader who demonstrates passion, grit and embraces accountability. Reporting to the CEO, this position is the key finance leadership position for the company and is accountable for directing and managing all finance, planning and accounting activities. As a member of the senior leadership team, this position requires a highly motivated individual with strong professional finance/accounting skills and acumen, interpersonal skills, and the ability to partner with internal and external stakeholders. Candidate must have strong track record of roles where s/he led teams through significant growth, improved financial KPIs and empowered financial decision making throughout the organization. In at least one of these roles, candidate will have reported to the CEO/CFO/VP of Finance and proven as a strong people leader who thrives in innovative, high growth and entrepreneurial organizations. Passion for sustainability is a must!

 

 

What you’ll do:

  •   Directly lead all aspects of the finance function, including, but not limited to: FP&A, cash management, cost accounting, Netsuite, customer profitability reporting, and accounting
  •   Responsible for budgeting, company financial KPIs, performance management, and sales re- forecasting. Assist in building models on working capital, ROI for trade and/or marketing investments, and new product/channel/customer unit economics, for example.
  •   In partnership with sales, lead trade finance capabilities including lift analysis, customer profitability and program analysis, and deductions stewardship to maximize cash collection. Foster decision-making discipline and alignment of sales and marketing resources with growth opportunities.
  •   Evaluate competing demands for growth-oriented spending and work with the CEO to balance these demands with the need for timely payback, healthy profit and financial stability. Help CEO “see around corners.”
  •   Establish a framework to support fact-based decision-making and a culture of accountability for delivering results. Manage the FPA and BI processes, integrating diverse data streams together for reporting purposes
  •   Manage relationships with banks, lenders and investors, auditors/accountants, and other key external stakeholders
  •   Evaluation and monitoring of internal controls to ensure the integrity of financial reports and the safeguarding of the company’s assets.
  •   Evaluation and development of systems that support the financial process and operations.
  •   Ensure accurate and timely completion of year-end procedures and liaise with external auditors – including the preparation of working papers, financial statements and related notes. Ensure compliance with statutory and bank agreements.
  •   As needed, support the CEO in investor relations requests, including potential investor content requests related to company financial/performance information, and due diligence for earning raises

 

 

Who you are:

  •   Prior success and financial leadership experience in a high growth organization
  •   Possess key functional expertise in financial planning, reporting and analysis, cash collections, cash disbursements, and cost accounting.
  •   Strong understanding of concepts such as trade promotion accounting, marketing/advertising promotion spending accruals, cost accounting and variances.
  •   Key leadership characteristics: integrity, leadership/drive for results, collaborative, flexible, strong communicator, player/coach mentality with ability to roll up sleeves
  •   Prior finance experience, preferably with BOTH big company and entrepreneurial company  experience (e.g. revenue under $50 million)
  •   Prior experience in DTC, retail and wholesale sales channels, with a strong preference for apparel companies
  •   Prior experience in operating with a lean team, scaling teams appropriate to size/scope of business, and utilizing appropriate systems to support aggressive business growth
  • Knowledge of Netsuite (used for much of the company’s financial and inventory reporting functions)
  •   CPA is a plus, MBA is a plus.
