Overview:  We tell the stories that connect people with United By Blue’s mission and products. The PR Associate will work within the Marketing team and the ideal fit is someone who is curious, tough, quick-witted, entrepreneurial.

The PR Associate will create and drive compelling narratives, campaigns, and announcements around United By Blue’s business. They will draft product launch announcements, write press communications, monthly press newsletters, pitch, pitch, and pitch some more. The role requires a communications expert with proven media pitching skills and media outreach experience, and a strong record of placing high-impact stories in both web and print media.  The goal of the PR Associate is to land placements in lifestyle media, outdoor industry media, key regional newspapers, broadcast, and leading outdoor and lifestyle blogs.

The PR Associate helps to define United By Blue and is responsible for the brand's reputation as a leader in the outdoor industry. This role requires a creative problem solver who can balance the daily distractions without losing focus on placing the valuable stories revolving around United By Blue’s products, team, and environmental work.  This role requires communication with partners, customers, and, of course, journalists. You will work within the marketing team, while working closely with the product, sales, and creative teams. You must be results driven, solution oriented, flexible, self-driving and have the ability to change course quickly, think big and start small, and thrive in a past paced environment.

Responsibilities: The PR Associate is responsible for all of United By Blue’s press efforts.

  • Field incoming press inquiries via email and phone
  • Build bi-weekly PR Newsletters focused on monthly marketing initiatives
  • Pitch trade publications prior to major trade shows
  • Schedule quarterly deskside appointments with NYC media outlets
  • Design and coordinate creative communications campaigns and narratives.
  • Drive awareness of our products through stories in relevant publications and through awareness campaigns.
  • Build and maintain relationships with key media.
  • Consistently and doggedly correct misinformation and inaccuracies.
  • Manage product launches and announcements.
  • Develop written materials, including product messaging, communications plans and FAQs, blog posts, and other collateral.


  • Bachelor’s degree or relevant experience
  • A minimum 3 years experience in Outdoor/Lifestyle PR
  • A self-starter who instinctively and consistently creates personal and professional stretch goals and meets them.
  • Works well with others with the ability to build trust with the team and work effectively in a highly collaborative team environment
  • Skilled at planning, organizing, prioritizing and executing simultaneous projects and activities.
  • Proven ability to work well under pressure and adapt quickly to change.
  • Excellent writing and editing skills. Curiosity and ability to think creatively, flexibility, and a sense of humor.
