Our Mission

For every product sold, United By Blue removes one pound of trash from our world's oceans and waterways.

We created this company because we wanted to make a bigger, more measurable impact on our oceans and encourage people to do the same. So we stopped simply writing checks and started organizing and hosting these cleanups. We wanted to do our part to clean the waterways ourselves.

That’s also why we take the care to create products that use responsible materials (like recycled polyester, which reuses plastic bottles so they won’t wind up in gyres). If you’d like to help, we’d love to see you at our next cleanup.

Date: July 27th, 2013

Location: Tacony Creek Park

Haul: 2,000 lbs

Since 1938, REI has encouraged its members and customers to experience every day outdoor adventures—everything from hiking to biking, camping under the stars to scaling mountains, and paddling rivers to cleaning up their coasts. Your outdoor essentials and UBB gear can be found at REI’s Conshohocken store at 200 W Ridge Pike Ste 115 in Conshohocken and REI's Marlton store at 501 Route 73 South in Marlton.

In just a few hours, we collected a ton of trash from Tacony Creek at Tacony Creek Park—some volunteers retrieved plastic bags, bottles, and litter while donning waders in the creek and others stayed along the stream banks. We’d like to thank our volunteers, REI, Philadelphia Streets, Philadelphia Water Department, Reanimator Coffee, TTFF and Scattergood Foundation for their help.
