To the United By Blue Community -
United by Blue was started with a simple goal - to clean up at least one pound of garbage from our waterways for every item sold. Over the last 12 years, we have removed over 5 million pounds of garbage from our waterways. To give you an idea of how much garbage that is, it is the equivalent of 75MM empty water bottles.
None of this would have been possible without our customers, employees, and volunteers. We are truly grateful for each and every one of you. Thank you!
United by Blue’s journey has also been that of a small business. After getting through the ups and downs of COVID-19 in 2020 and 2021, we found ourselves running low on cash. So, in 2022, we brought a partner into the business who we hoped could help fund the business so we could focus on our clean-up efforts.
At the time, it seemed like a good option to our leadership and our Board, but like many things in life, it didn’t work out the way we hoped. We are proud that we continued to accomplish our mission throughout 2022 and 2023, but ultimately lost control of the business earlier this year.
After a tumultuous several months in which the website was shut down, we were able to successfully regain control of the business, and are grateful and excited to have the opportunity to write the next chapter of United by Blue in partnership with our community
United by Blue is now led by three of us, all of whom are deeply committed to the mission of cleaning up oceans and waterways and operating a sustainable small business.
In the next chapter of United by Blue, we will be focusing our product line on items that more fully align with our mission. We have always focused on natural, recycled, and upcycled materials, but we must do better.
We will also be focused more than ever on our mission to clean the world’s waterways. The impact of climate change is on the news every single day, and we’re seeking to align with larger organizations, foundations, and corporations who share our vision to help clean the world’s oceans and waterways.
In the meantime, please bear with us as we have a very small team of 3 committed, passionate individuals who are working hard to reset the business and help accomplish our mission.
We're aware that many of our popular items are currently sold out, and we're actively working on restocking items that align with our mission. However, it may take a bit longer to replenish and respond to inquiries due to our recent warehouse move and the introduction of new channels and suppliers. Additionally, we're in the process of planning new clean-up events.
Our team is excited and grateful to have the opportunity and chance to be able to write the next chapter of United by Blue with the help of our community - our customers, employees, and volunteers who have supported us over the years.
We are grateful for all you have done and continue to do because cleaning up our waterways and fighting climate change is no longer a nice-to-have, but an imperative. And while the task ahead can feel daunting, with over 5 million pounds cleaned to date, it shows that by working together, we can make a difference.
