Join us on Saturday, October 10 for a morning cleanup at the Frankford Boat Launch on the Delaware River. We're working alongside GreenFi, Riverfront North Partnership, and the Philadelphia Water Department to haul trash off the shoreline before winter storms push it downriver. We'll be out from 9:30am to noon. It's free, and everything you need is provided.

Bring your old kayak. Seriously.

This one has a wrinkle we haven't run before: we're recycling recreational water vessels on site. If you've got a cracked kayak, a canoe nobody's paddled since 2019, a flat inner tube, orphaned paddles, or a tangle of old fishing gear taking up space in the garage, bring it. We'll recycle it free. Non-motorized only.

Boats like these usually end up in a landfill or, worse, abandoned at the water's edge. This is a rare chance to hand one off to someone who'll actually deal with it properly.

What we provide

  • Gloves, pickers, and trash bags — all the gear, no need to buy anything.
  • A water cooler for refills.
  • A snack when we're done.
  • A shot at winning some United By Blue gear.

What to bring

Wear clothes you don't mind ruining and closed-toe shoes with decent grip — the bank gets slick. Bring a reusable water bottle. If you'd rather use your own work gloves than ours, bring those too. And if you're bringing a boat to recycle, give yourself a few extra minutes to unload.

Tickets are free and it takes about a minute: FBLCommunityCleanup.eventbrite.com. Registering helps us know how much gear to pack, so please grab a ticket even if you're only 80% sure.

Why this stretch of river

For every product we sell, we remove one pound of trash from oceans and waterways. Cleanups are where that actually happens, with real people and real bags.

The Frankford Boat Launch sits on the tidal Delaware, which means trash here doesn't stay put. It rides the tide up and down the river twice a day and works its way toward the bay. Riverfront North has spent years rebuilding public access along this shoreline, and a morning of hands makes a visible difference to a stretch of bank that a lot of people paddle past and nobody owns.
